November's birthstones are Citrine and Topaz
Historically, Citrine and Topaz were often confused with other gemstones due to their similar appearance, especially the yellow varieties. While Citrine is a specific gemstone, Topaz comes in a wide array of colors, such as blue, yellow, pink, and orange.
Citrine’s color ranges from pale yellow to reddish-brown. Its name is derived from the French word for lemon and it’s believed to symbolize happiness, prosperity, and success, with a warm, sun-like energy that promotes joy and clear thinking.
Although Topaz, in its pure form is colorless, it is found in many colors, including yellow, orange, pink, blue, and brown. The most valuable variety is Imperial Topaz, which has pinkish-orange hues. Topaz is associated with love, strength, and affection, its vibrant colors are said to bring a calming energy. It ranks an 8 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, making it durable for everyday wear, but it should still be handled with care as it can be prone to chipping.
